SHOP AND SAVE LIVES!
January 2024 – Ontario County – A portable CPR Training Kiosk – one of only three in the U.S. – has been placed at Eastview Mall. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Ontario County Public Health, UR Medicine, Wilmorite Properties, and the American Heart Association to improve CPR skills in our community and save lives.
Statistics from the Heart Association reveal that more than 350,000 people experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital each year. That’s nearly 1,000 people every day. About 20 percent of these cardiac arrests occur in public places such as malls.
UR Medicine introduced the CPR Kiosk to the Finger Lakes region to expand opportunities to improve bystander CPR response rates and save more lives. The portable training station, developed by the Heart Association, is placed in busy locations, making it easy for large numbers of people to learn this important skill. Hands-Only CPR, which eliminates mouth-to-mouth breaths, has been proven to be as effective as traditional CPR in community settings. Our mission is to improve the odds of surviving a cardiac arrest in Ontario County by training many people on this simple, life-saving technique.
The Hands-Only CPR Kiosk is located at Eastview Mall (7979 Pittsford Victor Rd, Victor, NY 14564) just inside Entrance 3 near Dick’s House of Sport and The GAP through January 31, 2024. The mobile CPR station provides a brief interactive training, followed by a practice session, and a 30-second test. A built-in rubber torso ensures proper hand placement, compression rate, and depth, with real-time feedback to improve technique. Learn to save a life while you shop this holiday season!
